This is Us…

Who are we?

What are our aspirations with Roots of the Future & why did we create it?

This 12-month project is ran by 4 people with Vietnamese roots🇻🇳 and 1 Czech🇨🇿.

↪ We want to encourage young people to take an interest in their family history and cultural values.

↪ By using oral history methods, we aim to share stories and life experiences of our parents and close ones.
And by doing so we would like to underline the importance of bridging cross-cultural, intergenerational and social differences

Roots of the Future creates a space for exchange of ideas, experiences and knowledge regarding historical context of Vietnamese immigrants and traditions.

Mainspring:

Growing up in a foreign country with Vietnamese roots most of us didn’t really have a chance to explore and get to know much about our origins and culture. We decided to form this Solidarity project in order to solve this issue.

When working on our solidarity project it can sometimes feel like a challenge for our self-improvement.

“A Solidarity Project is an activity that a young person can carry out in a group of five people or more to help to bring positive change to the local community.“

European Youth Portal

The final results of this project are outcomes of process which include the diversity, joint force of the team members and involvement of narrators.

What do we expect as a group?

  • To understand and explore our Vietnamese culture, heritage and family history on a different level
  • To bring the word “multiculturalism” into our daily life conversations
  • To work on and to learn more about (cultural) generational gap and
  • To be competent in project management
  • To practice and develop these transferable/soft-skills
    • communication, public speaking, writing, critical thinking, time management

Our target groups include: young (Vietnamese) people with immigrant background, older generation and Czech community.

Furthermore we want to learn more about the historical context behind the immigration of Vietnamese people and our family history.

We foresee improvement of our competences in these main categories: cultural awareness, working with people and leadership (thanks to the opportunity of ESC projects and giving credit to make decisions and cooperation), active citizenship, taking initiatives and preparation for our future professions

Thanks to the principle of learning-by-doing and the flexibility, we have a freedom to design our own learning paths and a choice in which area we want to focus our attention.

To identify and measure our progress we will have regular reflections in pairs, in groups or individually with a coach Mgr. Ivan Kobelev.

This project was created in the framework of European Solidarity Corps and it was co-founded by European Union.
